Announcement: ClubCalibra gets Server upgrade!
« on: January 31, 2009, 12:28:56 PM »
Guys,

You've all been commenting recently that the site is starting to run a little slowly, its a frustration I know and so I've invested in a dedicated server, this will move us from shared hosting and give us dedicated CPU and Memory time!

Its not cheap but if it shuts you lot up, its well worth it :D

I'm unsure when the server will be ready and when the site will migrate over, so be patient and I'll let you know - it may infact have already moved, eitherway I hope that the speed improves and would appreciate your feedback!

Once thing that has been highlighted are big and chunky signature images - PLEASE from now on maintain a reasonably sized signature, not one that takes over the page and detracts from the content itself, this will also reduce bandwidth load.

Thanks all,

Kind regards,

Ash & The Team

Cheers Ash, well appreciated.

Ever thought of a phpbb for the forum.

Check one of the ones I'm an admin for it runs really fast and images don't slow it down

I'm personally not a fan of any other PHP forum - SMF is a great looking forum, neatly layed out - the other formats look old fashioned and clunky in my opinion?

Images don't necessarily slow this forum down, its just the shared hosting that didn't help. I hope things are running quicker for you all now?

My one request is that you guys FREQUENTLY click the banners shown on the site, its the only form of funding I have towards these additional costs - one click a day wouldn't take much but together the clicks would add up and help greatly.

You should maybe ask for voluntary contributions towards the site costs

Is there any reason why the "recent posts" section has just shrunk to 3 lines or is that just me?

More site trimming measures to help make things run faster, cut Shifty's post count by half and all will be good  :P :D

Its a nice idea but I do feel bad asking for contributions as this is in essence a free site! But if anyone has recently won the lotto, pools or premium bonds, please feel free to contribute a minor donation - it all adds up!

Got no problem contributing at all Ash, this site has provided me with more info than any haynes manual could along with meeting some new peeps at the same time. Generally when i order stickers i always add a donation anyway as the site is great.

Just an idea Ash but can we maybe come up with a "premium" membership? Something like £10 per year and you get a some extra privileges that a standard member doesn't?

Its a nice idea mate but at ClubCalibra.com we've always praised the fact that the site is entirely open to everyone, it doesn't require a membership, nor will we hide features for the sake of it.

The only bonus I could offer would be an @ClubCalibra.com email address perhaps but that could only be for the higher donation levels (i.e. £10+) as its an administration task.

I could perhaps offer Shop points?

I'd happily contribute towards the up-keep of this site but I see what you mean about not wanting it to become a "paid members" site.

I've got some money hitting my paypal account next month so I'll put a few quid towards the cause anyway ;)
