Announcement: Clean up your PMs!!!

Members,

Many of you may not have noticed that your SENT PM's are stored and are taking up humungous amounts of database space. Please could you all NOW click on MESSAGES, then top left click OUTBOX (under INBOX), there you'll see every message you've ever sent.

Please delete as many, if not all of these messages - many you won't need, eitherway they're safer if you copy/paste them into a Word document perhaps.

Your help is greatly appreciated, this task will help improve site speed/performance drastically. ;D

Holy sh*t.... 103 pages.... err is there a quicker way to delete... i can't see a select all.. only select all on that page.. and that will take me all week :(

Urghhh!!

You do quite easily get into a deleting routine but as you say, with that many pages, it'll still take a while - if you could see how you get on, in the meantime I'll go and see if I can increase the number of messages per page.

For anyone else that hasn't yet had a go, PLEASE CLEAR OUT YOUR MAILBOXES so that I can compact the DB and help the site run even quicker!!

PS - Can anyone with access to the database read PM's? ie site admin? Not aimed at you Ash, I just wondered for other sites I use.

Any good/competent administrator of a forum, or infact any website, can read PM's if he queries the DB - we have only ever done so in cases of harassment or abuse and have also queried PM's when a member didn't receive goods that he had paid for. Otherwise PM's go unnoticed by Administators.

Please bear in mind that the PM messaging system of any website isn't confidential, never provide credit card details or similar via such means as it'll never be secure, hosting companies could quite easily query the DB's that they host.

Thanks Ash, as I suspected :) Funny how on another forum I can mention something sensitive in a PM along with "you never know who might be reading this"... then 5 minutes later an admin posts on the forum that they do not read PMs :D

Anyway, thanks for the info!

Cleaned up my old PM's. Didn't realise I had 4 pages of them - inbox and outbox - so I'm now down to one.
