Announcement: Changes to Forums and Member Groups
« on: February 16, 2008, 12:58:16 PM »
Dear all,

To improve the flow and structure of the site, the following amendments have been implemented today...

MemberGroups
The post count required to progress through the membergroups has been changed, the margins have been moved upwards and the group names changed to reflect the community that we are all within.

Jokes Board
This board is specifically for BRILLIANTLY ENTERTAINING jokes, not for copying/pasting every joke you can find, therefore this board will now be hidden and only visible by members of the 'Mentors' or 'Experts' post count groups.

We welcome your comments and suggestions to help improve the community, please post them here!

Many thanks,

Regards, Ash & ClubCalibra.com

What are the new post requirements Ash? I can't get onto jokes anymore (not that I do very often anyway!)
you were correctly parked.
That's not much consolation if some tosspot smashes his vehicle into yours!

thats a shame, as the joke page was one of my first stops on here......does that mean we'll all be spamming threads to get
to read the jokes?????
just  a thought but Calibra Mentors????...how many post to get there then!

Hey hey... liking the "expert" status, I can put that in my parents' face! ;D

Seriously though, the whole "calibra rookie" through "calibra mentor" etc doesn't really hit the right note with me. Especially because the actual "experts" who come on here with know-how will be seen with "rookie" in their status, and knobs like me will be seen as an expert to newbs, giving off the wrong impression imo.

I think you'd be better off with a standard "rookie" through "senior" grade system.

But that's my opinion.

Feedback appreciated DC, I've amended the membergroups, if anyone has some nice suggestions for alternatives, post them here to be considered (5 levels).

Concerning Jokes, I have expanded the criteria to the two top post count groups - we are very conscious that recently posts have been a little random/off topic and are keen to retain focus on why we're here - this is a Calibra site and we'd prefer chat to be primarily focused around that topic to avoid wandering.

I have one question.  What happens if someone who has posted into one topic and is interested to see how it has progressed then finds out that the topic os now out of bounds?  The post up a picture or whatever it was called was about 30 odd pages long.  A lot of those people may not now be aboe to see the topic anymore.  I think that is a little unfair.

But on the upside - hopefully now a lot of the random crap and idiot posts will not end up at about 10 pages long.

LOL! Nice one Adam. Thing with the jokes section is that there weren't really many replies to most, you know, apart from "Lawl noice 1 hyuck!"

Rain will be upset though.

With regards to the groups - out of interest, what's wrong with the standard "new member" through "senior member" /moderator etc.. You could, as far as I'm aware, even create new groups for such things as event organisers ect, It may be lacking imagination - but it's simple, precise and shows where each member stands without over complicating things.

Avoid the "newbie" slang though, that always bugged me on forums.

If you're up for it, why not set up a thread for suggestions?

"Renaming of member groups - member suggestions?"

You're the Admin however, so it's all completely up to you how the site runs! :)

With respect,

I think we should be able to have a random chat without "hijacking" people's thread subject's.In theory this should not be a problem, with a random chat forum on here allready.
However, people, after all are only human, and will have crack when and where it suits.
It is a shame to loose the jokes forum, its not like it adds to your post count anyway! Has it gone back to January? Has everyone still got the blue's? Or are we to forget that some of us have bonded as friends, through this very site and being so called "like minded"?

I feel segregating users is not the best idea, but in saying that I contradict my belief in, "if it ain't broke, modify it!"
I guess I'll eat my word's! :(

DC, suggestions are welcome here and I like your ideas, anyone else anything else to contribute relating to Post Count Group names?

V6Lee, unfortunately the general consensus is that the site is no longer as much 'on topic' these days as it used to be, we appreciate that times change but we're eager to get more posts on the subject of the Cally, and less jokes.

As DC says, there's little reason to reply to a Joke, generally its just a 'LOL' or 'HAHA' - and lets face it, if you want jokes, go to google and search for 'Jokes', you'll find many! Anyone upset at losing access to the Jokes forum will generally be the type that have little otherwise to contribute to the community, in my opinion. I'm tempted to delete the jokes forum entirely, but keeping it accessible only by the more senior members may hopefully attract only the occasionally VERY GOOD joke actually worth reading.

In reading this over, I feel what I posted may have been taken wrongly. My original point was about the random chat and threads being hijacked. I just got on a rant and lost my focus after that ;)

LOL

I know change doesn't always go down well, but we're doing this to refocus the community on our core motivation, THE CALIBRA!!! This isn't a joke site, now that Manfred's not around as much its not even close to a 'titty' site anymore - we're here to primarily discuss the Calibra, random chitchat is all good but we want this site to be useful for many years to come, that'll only happen if the discussion we have is focused and to the point, without threads being hijacked with nonsense.

A lot of threads get hijacked, but not all threads that are mid-discussion, a lot of threads hijacked are that of 1 reply answered questions and members which post something, then never come back to check it...

Ofcourse, there are the other posts ::) but just to make it seem a little less "gloom and doom"
