anybody seen the calibra convertible and removable hardtop model? not so keen on the convertible but the hardtop looks sweet! saw it on google. where they made like this? ???

Any Calibra  convertable or with removable hardtop is a custom job, rare here in this country but popular abroad  :)

The problem with a custom convertable is that a monocoque body is designed to work with the roof as an integral part of the structure.  Cutting it off requires the floor to be seriously strengthened, otherwise it will flex around the middle, where the doors openings cut away the sides of the body.  Even some purpose built soft-tops suffer from scuttle shake.  Custom convertables may look cool (if done well) & may be great, but handling is likely to be serious compromised.

Unless the car is designed as a convertible from the outset it will be useless with the roof chopped off due to the additional rigidity that has to be added back in.

And before I'm tempted to start ranting about convertibles, I better stop now..!!
Hello, my SE6 auto. 65,000 miles and still going strong....

Hi ppl, new owner off a cali, I'd lke to find out from you guys about my car.Going on what Ash had recorded on the history of the calibra's. My cali is an N reg but first registered in 29.03.1996, the type is SE5, 1998 CC,8 V.
I'd like to know what the limited edition entailed for the SE5?
My car also Y BBS which I don't know if it is original?
I'd be great full if you could resolve these questions.
Thanx DEE

there was a run of 300or so SE5's(i don't think it was a many as the 400 in ash's summary)
came with black paintwork(not metallic) with cream leather
16" bbs rx wheels painted olive grey mica(not the usual silver)
came with factory fitted -25or30mm irmsher lowered suspension
they were all c20ne 2.0 8v's
all usual toys, p/s, e/w, e/m, e/s/r and heated leather

If you're looking specifically for details of the SEs, the following link is to the best summary:

http://www.geocities.com/the_calibra_se/

As far as the SE5 goes, Ash wasn't far wrong, a total of 370 were apparently produced, with the spec. shown.

...and please start it on the Troubleshooting forum, not the modifications and maintenance section.  Then people will know you are looking for assistance and are more likely to offer advise.

SE simple stood for 'Special Edition'.  Periodically through a model's lifespan manufacturers tend to release so called 'special editions' in the hope of boosting sales, particularly if sales of that particular model are flagging.  Otherwise 'Special Editions' are sold at a slight price premium, so it is a way of increasing profit margins.

'Special editions' are often simple 'badging' exercises, but sometimes they include some special features: slightly lower suspension, special alloys, special colours, etc.  Sometimes 'special editions' simply package some 'options' as part of the 'standard' 'special edition'.
