factory Steinmetz calibra made

In my many years of running this site, and chatting with fellow Cally owners, no I've never heard of such a cally made in partnership with Steinmetz from the factory.

The Calibra was made at Vel valmet Automotive car factory Uusikaupunki Finland and Steinmetz is a German tuning company. No such thing as  factory steinmetz calibra.

The only modified Calibra's are SE, LE and DTM.

Thank you.  I thought that I had heard that the Calibra was built in Finland, but no-one had confirmed it.  I can't understand the logic of assembling it so far away from the Cavalier factory(ies), with which it shared so many components.  Wasn't the Cavalier built @ Ghent in Belgium?  Was it also built anywhere else?

The Cali was also built in a factory in Russelsheimer in Germany. The vin plate number will tell you which factory the car was made in.  The number 9 at the start of the vin denotes Valmet and 85x1 is Russelsheimer.

I wonder where the LAST ever made Cally is now!!! Probably in Mr Opel's private garage unregistered, hehe - wouldn't it be nice to had bought a Cally and just stored it undriven, untouched, to show to the public perhaps 20 years later as the only one left on the road without rusting arches!!

My uncle used to deal in PVT cars.  He once restored an old Riley owned by the original Mr Riley.  He sold it to a buyer in Ireland.  The old log books used to have the names of all the previous owners & not just the last owner, made a car's history much more interesting (& revealing) - a shame they dropped it.

J@zV,

Don't know if this is common knowledge, but if you send off £5.00 to the DVLA and ask politely, they will send photocopies of all the previous logbooks / V5's for the car..!! I've got all the ones for my Calibra and it shows an interesting history of how it was registered. I do this for every car I buy and it does add to the history. Also a good way to verify mileage for classics.

Cheers

Thanks, I had heard about it, but had no idea how to go about it.  You're right, as Calibras (hopefully) become classics, the history may become more interesting...

To be honest, a Calibra is never going to become as much of a classic as an old supercar, like an Aston, or Ferrarri, but they should become as classic as Austin 7s, or Moggies, or other mass market cars. :)

Just send a cheque for £5.00 to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AR and they'll send you copys of the logbooks / V5's. And it's not just for the classic aspect - that's for another thread.. ;) - but more of a history / paperwork thing as well.

Way I look at it, it's only 5 notes..............and lets face it, how many people know their cars' history from 1st registration..??

Have you checked the autobox?  My V6 isn't an auto, so I've no idea how you check it, but I assume that there is some way of checking the level of the auto fluid in the box.

If it's not that, you might be looking for something that is setting up a resonant frequency between those speeds...

I'm pretty sure that the 'Holden' Calibras were exported to Oz from the factory in Europe, just as the Vauxhall Calibras were exported to England.  I'm pretty sure that there are no fundamental differences, unless they had to meet any specific Ozzie build regs, or emission controls.  The later Ecotec engines were designed specifically to meet stricter US emission regs, although I don't think that the Calibra was ever exported there officially, but fitted throughout the range.

yeah your correct i am from aus and i am annoyed that my 1994 opel as a hold badge on it and not an opel one :P
then again opel, vox and holden are all owned by General motors

Funny how a foreign badge always seems to be more 'exotic'.  Even British Leylands carried more kudos in Japan than in the UK! ;D

And if GM had sold the car in the US, it would have been badged "Pontiac Grand Prix"...................now that would have been interesting.

As I've just found this section,I was interested to see which model I had.My 16v was 1st registered 16/10/96 which according to this site http://www.geocities.com/the_calibra_se/ makes it an SE7.It's blue with cream leather,A/C,oil/volt guages etc,but the paint code is Z288 which makes this Magnetic Blue and not Magic Grey as the site says it should be.Does this make mine extra special rare. ;)

No.  What makes you think that it was an SE7, they sold standard 16vs at the same time as the Special Editions, so the date alone doesn't mean anything?

My bad.Been looking through the cars history, and, right enough, nothing's said about it being a Special edition.

Having seen the trim level on the SE models, which is the same as mine(except paint colour),I assumed i may have, unwittingly, got hold of one. :)
