cheers, does anyone know how i can i find the 0-60 times for a red-top and a eco 2.0l 16v calibra? as im wantin to compare iv been advised to by the newer ecotec engine as its more reliable and the sfi isnt much good but the redtop has more power now bhp is all good but what about the torque of the car, my dad used to own a 1995 4x4 turbo and ever since he traded it in for his impreza p1 iv wanted a calibra but i wont get insured on a turbo any suggestions? thanks

I believe that the 0-60 for the 'Redtop' was claimed to be around 7.6/7.7 and the 'Ecotec' was around 8.2/8.3...

I don't have a strong opinion between the two - most people on this site seem to prefer the older 'Redtop' engine because it is significantly more powerful and also because the electronics on later Ecotecs appear to be slightly more complicated and prone to more faults.  Having said that, 'Redtops' are invariably older and generally have higher mileages as a result, so 'wear & tear' is likely to be greater.

As for whether a car has been 'thrashed', there are some obvious tell-tale signs, but it can be difficult to tell for certain, unless you are fairly expert...  At the end of the day, go for the best condition, lowest mileage car you can afford (bearing in mind that it may be better to pay a little more, or buy one from someone you know, rather than buy a cheaper one and have to spend a fortune on putting right...

Good luck!
