I have compiled a list of Calibra engines and other commonly used engines in the GM range...

Brilliant & useful, thanks, I've given you a Karma 'applaud' for that summary.
It reminds me, I ought to put a request in to my local breaker to let me know if they ever get a Y32SE 3.2L Omega engine in & find out how much they would want for it.  I assume that, like the X30XE 3.0L Omega engine it should drop straight in to the std V6 engine bay - although I imagine that the suspension and anti-roll bars might have to be stiffened up to cope with any increased weight.  Does anyone know about this?

Cheers,

There is no increased weight as the engine is exactly same apart from longer stroke and larger bore.

IIRC the Y32SE are all automatic and as such have a longer crank flywheel flange and so won't fit a manual box. Z32SE in manual form is the option.

Try one of these find and engine .com type places as thats where i got mign from.

Oooh, thanks.  Did I miss the Z32SE in your list, as I definitely want to stay manual.  Can I keep my existing gearbox, or is it better to buy the Omega engine & gearbox together?  I'd like a Courtney engine, of course, but they are absurdly expensive - more than 3x the value of the car - and, sadly, I'm not convinced that it is worth investing that much in a Calibra - so I'd be inclined to stay with the standard Omega engine, which with 45bhp more than the std V6 would keep me happy.  I would go for a lightened flywheel at the same time though...

Your best going with a 6-speed F28 box which fit allmost straight on. You need to fit spacers to the engine mount and need a turbo flywheel and clutch.

Im sticking with the F25.

Dicky,
Doh!  I've just seen the Z32SE in your list, but it's shown as being fitted to the 3.2L Vectra & Signum.  The Omega engine was virtually a direct replacement for the Calibra - according to you "the engine is exactly the same apart from longer stroke and larger bore".  Does this apply equally to the later Vectra and Signum engine?  i.e. same mounting points & drive position etc.

That is correctamundo. The engines are exactly same when strippped down to bare block and heads. Essentially yes it is just a different bore and stroke that differentiates the v6 engines and moddified heads and on some differennt CR.

So yes a 3.2 would fit but they're hard to find which is why I decided on the 3.0 for a conversion.

No, the C20XE differs allot from the original 20XE.

The C20XE has a different ECU with lambda control, CAT and on later models a disi.
Such items like the COSTCAST head and Forged pistons were replaced with cheaper versions.
The C20XE was also adjusted to produce less noise emisions than the original 20XE.

The 20XE in it's original glory is much harder and expensive to find than the later C20XE.
They are usually found in the Astra GTE 16v.

Where's my engine code ?

Vauxhall Calibra V6 engine X25XE   ;D

My Handbook says that the V6 is a C25XE

The C apparently stands for: EC 91/441/EEC, US ' 83
The X apparently stands for: EC 91/441/EEC, stage 2#

So the difference is whether it is a 'US '83', or a 'stage 2#', whatever the hell they mean....

AFAIK the C25XE was fitted to the Calibra, the X25XE was fitted to the Vectra (as per the list earlier on in this thread).

My handbook is dated May 1995, which is odd considering my V6 is an early 1994 model.

I note that the X25XE engine replaced the C25XE (short block only) as late as 1997 - very close to when the very last Calibras were manufactured.  No doubt they ceased producing the C25XE engine from the Calibra, so fitted the X25XE engine from the Vectra to some of the last Calibras.  It would be interesting to know how many V6s were produced with the X25XE, not many I suspect - perhaps a few late SE9s?

Probably most of all 1997/1998 V6's have the X25XE engine, i know mine has.

Not sure about the context, but it could be 'compression ratio'...
